ABSTRACT
This review emphasized the prospect of snail production as a means of generating wealth in Nigeria, especially now that unemployment is on the increase. After the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) lockdown, the price of foodstuffs (inflation) and the exchange rate of the Nigerian Naira to the US Dollar soared, making many households unable to feed themselves while many others lost their jobs and businesses. A lot of Nigerians can make out a means of livelihood and generate wealth from snail farming.
The rearing of snails in Africa is mainly for its meat, but there are also many products and by-products that can be derived from snails to create wealth and say goodbye to poverty and social vices such as stealing, kidnapping, and ritual killing. Snail meat is a powerful aphrodisiac, it is used for the treatment of male and female potency.
Snail is also used in pharmaceutical industries for the treatment of some ailments such as anemia, high blood pressure, fertility, etc. The slime (mucus) is also used in cosmetics industries for manufacturing body creams, soaps, etc. Snail farming is a huge source of income for the farmer and provides employment either full-time or part-time jobs.
